Well, I took a big snip out of your reply. I was trying the simplest
approach first. Direct from the IIsi to the LaserWriter. Works using
PhoneNet connections. The DB9 to MiniDIN8 cable I have did not work.

Dismantling two PhoneNet connectors and connecting the wires to make a
cable with DB9 at one end and MiniDIN8 at the other did not work.

The quest is to put the LaserWriter on an ethernet network using an
Asante AppleTalk to Ethernet converter (which I have). For this to work,
I have to be able to connect the AppleTalk port of the LaserWriter to the
Asante box. The cable I have didn't work. The one I made didn't work.

I need to know the "pin-outs" of the proper cable.

I understand the use of hubs, switches, routers, and the other various
other aspects of ethernet wiring, I just can't make the first step,
getting the printer to properly connect through a cable to another
AppleTalk port.
