My experience is that power books are not able to start a disk spinning using the AC power adapter only. They need a working battery to provide the initial starting current.

It sounds as though your battery will not take charge - pun intended - at all.

Clean contacts, let it charge for a while, discharge it a couple of times, and then give up on it and buy a new one for more than the value of the powerbook.

By the way, how do I get to the powerbook 160 battery? I can't figure it out by eyeballing the thing, and I've tried to find a relevant manual but all I could find were the tech specs and a pdf with just the table of contents to a user's guide.

Do I have to take the screws out? What kind of screwdriver do I need? They are teeny screws and they're not standard or phillips.

Thanks again, Jess
