For broadband, you need a DSL or Cable router. Some have several ports so they also work as a network switch. Just hook up to it like any other computer, then setup Open Transport with the DNS and IP address settings required by your ISP. If your broadband hookup is through a "modem" that restricts you to connecting one computer, get a router made to connect between the "modem" and your network. These are made both with one port for the "modem" and one LAN port or one "modem" port and several LAN ports. For dialup, you can dig up a dialup router. These were made in several versions. Some had a built in modem, router and switch for an all in one solution. some had the router and switch plus one or more serial ports to connect modems to (and sometimes a "WAN" port for connecting to broadband "modems" or routers). Another type had a serial port and a LAN port, which you'd connect between a modem and router/switch. Right now, the only brand name on these I can recall is Webramp. I doubt anyone is still making any type of dialup router now for small systems or home use. (Of course they still make the big setups for Internet Service Providers.) An all in one box is the neatest solution in any case. Having a modem (either a dialup one or broadband) then a router then a switch all daisy chained can get messy, "plus" there are all those extra connections as potential failure points. Another way for dialup is to have one computer on the LAN share its dialup connection, then other computers (running any OS that uses TCP/IP) can share the connection. This also works for broadband by installing two network cards then connecting one to the broadband connection and the other to the LAN. Windows since 98SE has had this internet sharing built in. I dunno about OSX. Linux should be able to share/route internet connections too. ===== It will be total Fandemonium!
