My new old powerbook 160 now starts up, thanks to a new battery. But unfortunately, it's still not useable, because there is no contrast and the contrast control doesn't do a thing. I can adjust the brightness from a uniform black to a uniform brightness or any gray in between, but that's all.

Actually, when I powered it up for the first time, I could see the happy face come up and 7 start booting, but I wanted to adjust the contrast. When I touched the contrast control the screen went wacky and stripey and staticky and then blanked out to its current state.

Any guesses as to what went wrong, and whether it's fixable (probably by someone other than me! I'm not a hardware person!) ?

I suppose if I can't fix it I'll look for another PB 160 to buy, since I was getting excited about this one and I have this lovely new battery.

Thanks, Jessi
