I've shipped a number of them and the worst that has happened is the little video board on the back of the CRT comes off or an ethernet add-on card comes out of its socket; easy to fix as long as the recipient has a torx tool to open the case. Breaking the back of the tube generally happens when trying to disconnect some internal cables, you accidently bump that small video board, and you hear the hiss of death (I've done it at least twice). To prevent this, remove the video board from the back of the CRT while working in there. What seems to kill to the SE/30 model is simply age: the capacitors used on the logic board begin to leak. When the caps are not functioning properly, the sound volume gets less and less; eventually there is no sound at all. And leakage from the caps causes shorts that prevent the logic board from booting. Dishwashing the logic board will often restore the ability to boot, but so far it has not restored the sound.
