Be advised that older Mac's - OS 8.5 or earlier - cannot act as a server for OS
10.4.0 or higher. It is a deliberate "feature" of Apple's new software and not
a bug that will get fixed.

Your "compact Macs" will be OK. as long as that doesn't include the MiniMac.

I found a use for a Mac II. I removed the motherboard and used the case and its
power supply to provide 5 disks to an SE/30 that acts as my file server. By
playing with the power switch and using the startup feature of the Mac II power
supply I have the SE/30 set to quit quietly on a power failure and not restart
until told to do so.

Like others I have Mac II parts here in Colorado Springs that I can part with.
