Hi Chris,
Actually, I don't have any testing equipment to check the power
supply's output. The only thing that I can say it that the unit worked
perfectly about six months ago. I bought the II off of Excite's
classifieds about five years ago. The unit was a IIfx, but it wasn't
until I got it that I saw it was an upgraded II. So basically, I am
downgrading it back to a II.
Without going into too much detail, I had the unit stored under a bed
for a few years (I did take it out to fire it up, though). I brought
it out to remove the PRAM batteries just in case they began leaking. I
put the system in a trash bag to keep dust out, so when I opened the
bag, I noticed a machine oil smell. Is there a lubricant of some kind
in the power supply? Maybe this is an indication of an imminent
failure? I could smell it when the system was running. I assume that
the IIfx board will work, I just need a couple of fresh batteries.

PS: In case anyone is wondering why I would downgrade from the "wicked
fast" IIfx, I bought a genuine IIfx off eBay last year. Thought it
would be nifty to have the first modular Mac.
