I don' t know how yours works, but I always put a lock through the coupler 
lever, but I know from other trailers that the hitch can be lowered onto the 
ball and will seat ok, and I do this with the A/S sometimes, even while the 
lock is on it. Therefore, I keep it locked WITH a plain spare hitch ball 
inserted, thus no room for anybody elses.
