I really like your way of thinking on this shine stuff. I love antiques and the "old" look and if you refinish a piece of furniture you have taken away a lot of the value and made it look too "new". I think my S Car Go looks just fine with her "aged" look, shows her age proudly and I don't have $2000 to spend on polishing. When the cat is away, the mice will play.
