Not everyone on this list is so power hungry as you think. I started pulling 
trailers in the 60s and there were mostly cars used back then. I think the 
big difference now is not the engine but the frame . They used to have a 
frame under a car just like the trucks. If you have a little less power, 
just go a little slower up the hills.
