Most boat "speedometers" I have seen are more like airspeed gauges - they have a pitot tube mounted in the water and they measure speed via water pressure. Not easy to adapt to a car. Other gauges, like tachs and oil and water temp gauges are the same as car types, but you might need the sender for that particular gauge - it might not like a VDO sender, for instance.
