Hot VWs magazine had an article on the set-up back in June 1994.  According
to the article, it was pretty much a bolt-in installation once you purchased
the narrowed trailing arms (or did the "narrowing" yourself, which was also
detailed in the article).  As far as I can tell, the spring plates and
snubber pads remain exactly where the factory put them.

Type IIIs use full automatics, not AutoSticks...and it
would be their LH drive axles, not torsion arms, that
would be required (they're 26mm shorter than those
used on a manual Type I or III or an AutoStick).

My bad.  Of course.  Axles, not torsion bars.

Anyway, according to the article Bruce was running 225/50R15s on 15x8"
Porsche alloys.

If I had access to a flatbed scanner I could perhaps make the article
available on-line somewhere...
