While it is true that a line-lock can be installed to perform the same task as an old fashioned parking brake, it wouldn't be legal. By law, all cars require a *mechanical* back-up just in case the hydraulic system fails.
Besides, a Baja Bug should have mechanical steering brakes for a proper off-road car -- it improves the "fun factor". -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of No Quarter Sent: March 27, 2007 6:16 PM To: VintagVW Subject: [vintagvw] Line lock for VWs??? While I'm on this disc brake kit, I'm thinking of doing the brakes on my old Baja bug which I need to get done before next winter so I have something to drive. The rear disc brake kits without e-brakes are so much cheaper so it begets the question - isn't there such a thing as a line-lock for VW bugs? If so, this would be a suitable replacement for an ebrake for my Baja and makes more sense because I wouldn't have to worry about mud and water rusting my cables up. Disc brake make so much more sense and I can't believe I didn't do all of this sooner. Thanks all.
