The reason I used an original 73-74 base was because I didn't want to make a 
permanent change from "stock". I like to be able to go back to original for 
when I decide to sell the car. These Camry seats were a comfort option for a 
daily driver. The down side is that I had to buy and butcher an old set of 
seats for the fabrication. I like the way Bernard did his seats, I just wanted 
to stay as original as possible. The CRX seats are very nice.

 heres an easier solution. you have to test fit the seat on blocks to
 get the proper angle before welding in the mounts but this method gets
 the seats off the pans. very solid feel

I used CRX seats in my '63 but fabricating mounts was pretty difficult.
  The
CRX seats are designed to be bolted directly to the floor, and the
 sliders
are only about an inch thick.  The CRX floor is contoured to rise up to
 give
the seat its height and backwards-tilting angle.  I used to lengths of
aluminum C-channel to fabricate mine.

For what it's worth, I had some Camry seats welded to original 74 seat
frames for my 74 standard beetle. They adjust, and the Camry seats base
 have
adjustment too. They sit just a touch high, but are so much more
 comfortable
and adjustable that I really don't mind. I'm tall and the adjustment
 lets me
almost sit in back seat. You could do that with almost any seat. The
 Honda
CRX seats are popular.

The 73 and 74 are interchangeable at the base, but have a slightly
 different
head rest. Neither one is comfortable.
