Hi all,

Again asking a question for a friend. He has a 69 bug which he is
converting to a buggy. Had charging issues. Got a lot of bad advice from local
mechanics and electricians. Ended up getting his generator rewound. Now what he
posts to me:

Quote:

''Well the problem is ... With No Connections and running engine, I am
having +15(Varying) voltages on DF terminal of my dynmo, and -15(varying)
voltages on D+ terminal of my dynmo. It should give +15(varying) voltages on
both D+ and DF terminals.Any guys having same kind of dynmo can solve this
issue for me, all they need to do it, temporarily disconnect DF and D+
terminals from their dynmo and use VoltMeter to check voltages on DF and D+
terminals while engine is running. Also to check what degree the dynmo heats up
with connection and without connection to cutout and related assembly.Hopefully
these checks and tests help me to resolve my isssue.''

End quote.

Second prob he was facing is that the gen heats up to the point that he
cannot keep his hand on the housing for longer than 5 secs. What could be the
issue apart from what I asked him to check, namely:

1.Worn gen bearings.
2.Missing cooling plate in the fan housing.
3.Maybe its due to the fact that the gen is not connected to the wiring???

Havent spoken to him since he sent me the above text but I think I dont
agree with the getting positive voltage at both D+ and DF terminals.
I did advise him to get an opinion from the person who had rewound the gen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Asad.
