I am a longtime lurker and occasional question asker on this list. Unfortunately my list days are limited due to a collision that has totaled my car. An out of state person in a rental car, on her cell phone, and allegedly on prescription meds decided to play croquet with me and bashed in the back of my car - the engine lid and left fender are toast. I was stopped at a stoplight and the impact launched me across an 6 lane intersection. I am not sure if the engine is ok or not since I cannot get the hood open but if it is it has about 20,000 miles on it - it's a 1776. The rest of the car is in good-very good shape. In the past 4 years I completely redid the interior, replaced the shocks and struts, added front disks. It has a working sunroof and the glass is good (no the rear defroster does not work). This would make a good parts car or possibly could be restored if you are a good bodyman. This super beetle did NOT have the dreaded super shimmy! Right now I'm getting screwed by my insurance company but once they are done with me and the car I can buy it back for $400 plus tax. I'm not looking to make a profit on this but would prefer to see the car go to someone who can use it or wants to part it out. Letting it go to a junkyard is a much less desirable option to me. Seems that there is much more than $400 in parts if you have the time... If anyone is interested let me know and I can send pictures of the car and provide more details. Right now the car is in a lot in Perris Ca and will have to be towed on a trailer or on the front wheels. A very sad former VW owner...
