Hi All, I have several questions, a couple that may only be answerable by Bill or Marc.? I need to buy a pair of heater channels for my 69 Bug convertible.? Seems to be a lot of conjecture on correct heater channels.? I have seen 2 ads on the Samba for heater channels that seem to be counter to what I thought was true.? For 68 and newer Std Bugs, I always thought the heater channels were the ones that are full length in the front where the top and bottom plate are the same length such that they extend under the front frame support to the front of the car.? The ones for Super Beetle I always believed were the ones where the bottom plate was full length, but the top half only extended to the inside of the front frame support- the bottom plate had 2 holes where the bolts should go through to nuts in the frame support instead of the heater channels themselves?? Today I met up with someone who had a gray colored full length channel (measured it) but said he had used the other side on a S! uper Beetle, and in fact it had writing on it saying it was for 71-79 Super Beetle.? Also saw another ad that seems to indicate the full length were for Super Beetle and vice versa.?? On top of that my brother has 2 channels with the extended lower plate that he said he purchased for his 69 convertible.? Many online ads have the same picture for both channels though the numbers are different.? So my questions:
1. Were there certain years where Super and Std heater channels were the same? 2. Any way to tell country they are made in? 3. The one I saw today had the front portion of the channel made with 2 pieces overlapped and tack welded both top and bottom right at the bend rather than one stamped out piece.? Was this an older way that they were manufactured?? Would this be as strong as top/bottom stamped out as one piece each and tacked together? 4. I want good heavy channels- saw German ones on OEVeeDub and "heavy" ones from Aircooled.net, both are the same price.? Any experiences with either of these? 5. Am I correct on which ones are for which Bug? I actually welded a heater channel into my 72 Std some years ago and now am not certain anymore which one I used Thanks !!!
