Hi, Nick, I know that at least some auto clocks sold by VDO were made by Keinzle-Uhrenwerke, located down in Schwenningen, in the Black Forest. Unfortunately, Kienzle went belly-up back in the 1970s (I believe) after around a century of existence. For many years they marketed wind-up clocks in the USA under the brand name "Bradley."
I've just asked an old friend in Schwenningen (a former Kienzle employee) how Kienzle servicing is handled nowadays. I'll let you know if he knows anything.
