Bingo!!

Yes the setup looked like this. Other members have described correctly how
this setup was changed to a double pulley setup in the past by us. Well my
brother Suleman ('Suley' a regular poster before but now a lurker) had designed
the double pulley setup which runs two belts from the original generator shaft.

I too am really surprised or rather shocked at this being done in the US,
outside the Third World!! Here there is a big issue of availability of
alternators. Recently many VWs are being scrapped so parts are now relatively
easier to find. We dont get a single new unit rather the old ones are being
cycled over in a small 'pool' of parts. Once in a blue moon a unit or two turns
up in imported lots of scrap metal and if anyone knows what it is, ends up with
the VW dealers.

Over here its a matter of availability plus also the fact that this kind of
BS setup costs about half or even one third to fit over a second hand alt fit.

Lets see Ill soon be reversing this and going the good way as VW intented
it to be.

Thanks,
