It's not really that there's an upper displacement
limit for these systems (although CB recommends 1641cc
or less) - they're merely saying that the width of the
system accomodates 1300 to 1600 BASED engines (as
opposed to the shorter-stroke 1200 engines that are
about ½" narrower between the exhaust ports). If a
stock 1600 muffler fits your engine OK, one of these
should too. If you're running stock heater boxes
there's little point in having a header that's any
less restrictive so one of these should be fine.
With big-valve heads, conventional wisdom is that you
should be running oversized heater boxes or J-tubes to
keep the head temps down, but if you aren't buzzing
the engine to high RPM it's really not a big deal (and
if your engine is even close to happy with a stock
muffler I'm assuming it's a mild one that seldom sees
over ~4000RPM).
What carburetion are you using? If it's a single, note
that you'll get less intake manifold heat with one of
these systems than you do with a stock muffler - that
could cause some low-RPM driveability issues in cool
weather.
