Thanks for the replies to both of my posts Marc. ----- Original Message ----- From: "marc vellat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Air-Cooled Volkswagen Discussion List" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 11:52 AM Subject: Re: [vintagvw] direct mount oil pressure gauge & oil temp gauge
You'll exceed the range of a 60psi gauge if you rev up a cold engine (the control valve opens at ~65psi, but when the oil's cold & thick the pressure can still exceed that). Once the engine's warmed up you'll probably only see 30-45psi so the lower range gauge would be more useful; just be careful not to damage it when cold. The oil temp shouldn't ever go higher than 220-230° IMO, so the lower-range guage makes sense there too. --- tammer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I plan to install an oil temp gauge in my bug. > > I noticed that most people seem to use the > (300F/150C) models. > Wouldn't it be better to use the (250F/120C) model? > > Also, I plan on getting a direct mount oil pressure > gauge(not the one you > mount in the dash) for testing oil pressure at the > stock oil pressure sender > location.
