My search for stock size tires brought me to my local Pep Boys ...check your
phone book for listings in your area ...I was able to purchase a set of
Brazilian-made Goodyear tires in the stock size. The tire itself doesn't have a
Goodyear brand on it but the stick-on label indicates they are made by Goodyear
of Brazil. I think these are the actual OEM factory tires put on the Brazil
Bugs still being produced down there.

  Subject: [vintagvw] Bug Tires

About a year ago I tried to find tires for my daughter's '74 standard
daily driver. It was then I found out that the major tire
manufacturers no longer make the size to fit our air-cooled Bugs. A
recommendation from the list for 165/80-R15s took me to TireRack where
I ordered a set by Kumho to be dropped-shipped to the local dealer.
These tires seem to work just fine.

Last week she had a flat, causing the tire to be ruined. Not only was
the tire not available locally, all the major net companies listed the
Kumho as back-ordered. While searching I was directed to an eBay
advertisement for those tires. This ad from Buy Wheels Today of
Cincinnati, OH showed about 30 available. Knowing I needed a set for
the other Bug in the garage as well as the replacement, I ordered five.

On the third business day after the order, UPS brought them to my door.

Where are other folks buying their tires these days?
