I didn't do anything to my gas tank (a 1970 original) except rinse it out
and clean/paint the outside. I figure I'll change the filter in the bottom
pretty often for the first few months I'm running.
My 1970 police beetle is likewise almost street-ready, after a tortured
history of sheet-metal butchery, wrinkled headliners, and being left in the
rain with no rear hood or air cleaner for weeks at a time. It took a
lawsuit to get it back, and thousands for a new engine and an interior
re-do.
I discovered American Collectors Insurance that, unlike Hagerty's, doesn't
require a secure garage. I got a couple of good recommendations on them,
and they were pleasant to deal with. I'm now weighing whether to go with
Antique registration or regular. In my state, having Antique plates allows
use only to/from "shows or events," but unrestricted use on weekends! But
there's no annual renewal charge -- it's one-time only.

Got to take the fuel tank this weekend and give it treatment with chemicals
I got from my FLAPS. Cost me $22 for a quart. Is called red-toate (SP). We
will see how it works.
