I would like to build a 1600cc Single Port engine. I have a 66' Bug
that the prior owner put a 1600cc in. I was told if I put the 1300cc
back into that I would notice a considerable drop in performance. I am
not one who tries to see how I fast I can get it to going between stop
lights. I just want to cruise down two lane country roads 45-55mph. I
have never built an engine before and the engine that I have now is
beginning to consume oil. I noticed that one day when I was heading
into a head wind that it consumed a noticeable amount. I check the
engine oil before I first start the car and every time that I stop fill
up with gas. I guess I have oil slipping by the rings? The engine has
been in the car for at least the 11 years that I have owned it. I have
always wanted to build an engine on my own. I wanted to keep the engine
that I have in the car running and build a new engine. Do you know if I
would be better buying a AS-41 case or finding an old case and have it
line bored. Should I use a new crank, new connecting rods, etc... I
have not found anyone offering new single port heads. I have a Solex
30/31 Pict carburetor and a 111 905 205 M Distributor. Any suggestions
would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you,
Greg
