Alas, gone for me as well. I used to rally in a friend's '64. Amazing car
- I always wanted a 356. A red one. A coupe. So ya, thanks for sending the
link and making me feel awful :-)

What a fantastic car. Porsche really lost something maybe in the late
1990's sometime. The older 911's, the 356's, beetles, buses, ghias - they all
can turn heads and make people smile to this day. A new 911 just does not
instill the same feelings IMO. To own a piece of the old magic is just, well,
magic, though, so we should all be happy with what we have.

Anyway, I showed it to my wife and she said, "What on Earth would you do
with _another_ car?" and walked away, so I guess even if I had the all money
in the World, it wouldn't matter anyway.

I agree. Even the butt-ugly 914 had a soul...
I have been fortunate enough to have had a
few older Porsches, but never a 356. I bought
a Boxster back in 2000 but, as you mentioned,
it just didn't invoke those same emotions in me
as the '87 911, or even the old 914 from long
ago....
Old Germans cars have a mystique to them that
can't be duplicated. I can't explain it but I guess
in present company I don't have to-
