Volks,

In case you haven't heard (meaning you don't live in the Southeast), 2011 is
a Year of the Cicada. It's our regional bug. (For the uninitiated, go to
http://www.newschannel5.com/story/14688635/cicadas-being-heard-loud-and-clea
r-in-middle-tennessee.) I just now went out to remove the cover from my
beetle -- and found about 40 hopelessly trapped -- and love-starved --
cicadas on my car's roof trying to find their way up and out. They're
pretty dumb.

They had obviously crawled out of the carport floor, up my tires, and ever
upwards onto the roof -- where they struck a dead end under the car cover.
Happily, I was able to free them all to continue their climb treeward.

My bug will last longer than they will. The cicadas will all be gone in a
couple of weeks, but their descendants will be back in 2024. And I'll be
HOW old?

Chirping in Tennessee
