Volks,

The Volkswagen AG has put up a page on their 2012 Beetle (they've dropped
the name "New Beetle," but adopted the English name for the international
market. Go figure.).

Note that there's a half dozen or so wheel options available from the
factory -- in 17", 18" and 19" sizes. They aren't saying a lot about the
tech stuff -- going mostly on image (again). Ho-hum. But if you click on
the "Technologie" tab you'll at least see that they're seriously pushing the
TDI Diesel and the six-speed tranny.

http://www.volkswagen.de/de/models/beetle/highlights.html They have a
so-called "Beetle Blog" -- it's all factory PR -- at
http://blogs.vw.com/beetle/ . They're trying to connect to old-beetle
nostalgia. As I recall, I bought my first two beetles -- new! -- for under
$1,600 complete, loaded with AM-FM radios and vinyl interior (but you
couldn't order the fabric interior here). That's why they appealed to young
marrieds, starving students, and buyers who otherwise might go for a used
car. Wonder how the pricing of the 2012 Beetles will run. Wanna bet
they're no bargain?
