Last week I went by my nearest VW dealership (still over 20 miles away) to
take advantage of some freebie coupon deals. This time, they didn’t run and
hide – the usual response to air-cooleds in VW service departments. Matter
of fact, the techs in the shop took turns driving my car around the block
and turning on the blue light and martinhorn. But I digress …
They had a nice new VW calendar available as a parts-counter freebie – and
it features not only current but classic Volkswagens. Scattered among the
good monthly color photos I found an old Karmann-Ghia convertible, a
23-window Samba, and a nice ’57 Beetle. The calendar is produced not by
VWoA but by CMG Marketing as part of a “VW DriverGear” series. It's titled,
"Past. Present. Beyond." And it’s a very nice freebie.
Could it be that VWoA is rediscovering their brand-loyal base? I’m not
convinced, but it’s a nice touch anyhow. Might check your nearby VW
dealership. The calendar is nice.
