When rebuilt were new case to head studs used? Chinese studs are not equal
to original german studs and stretch. I never have used loctite on studs for
heads. Is it possible his engine is overheating??

Subject: [vintagvw] Loose heads?

I have a friend that had a 1967 VW bug and lives down in San Felipe, MX in
the Baja. The engine has about 10000 miles on it. The engine was built as
a 1600SP and has been doing quite well other than my friend tells me the
heads keep coming loose. I suggested the studs might be pulling out of the
case, however it's got case savers on it. Do you think maybe it needs
loctite to help hold everything together? Is it possible the nuts/studs
could be vibrating back out? He says he keeps losing compression and
retorquing the heads seems to fix it. This engine was balanced and blue
printed so it's a nice smooth runner.

Thanks for the advice...
