Hi Anil,
It is the gland nut that holds the flywheel onto the crank that has the needle bearing in it. Your 69 should have one as well. Where are you from? The 1200 and 1300 in the US were both 6 volts, but the 69 was the third year of 12 volt. You can't interchange a flywheel from a 12 volt onto a 6 volt crank. As I recall there was a bus flywheel that was a 12 volt ring gear, but fit onto a 6 volt crank. Might be hard to find one of them now. As for noticing a difference- I don't think you would notice much in town, especially since your 1300 was leaking compression. My 69 beetle (1300) needs to come out for an overhaul... the diagnosis is the head studs are loose on the 3/4 side.. cyl # 4 is particularly bad and constantly fouling its plugs. Funds are short and I'd rather do it properly., meanwhile I have access to a 1200 which was running good before it was pulled. Not sure of the the year but the flywheel has a needle bearing in it ? I'll probably need to use the flywheel off my 1300 engine, ditto the carbs, distr and fuel pump... anything I miss out? On my original engine I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I can get away with just a top overhaul. I checked the crank sideplay and there is no noticeable fore-aft play. Oil pressure light goes off once the engine fires and does not flicker. Having said that, the cases are not in the best shape.. during the last overhaul around 1998 the main bearing saddles were all worn.. what was done then was to machine them down and fabricate a spacer to enable new original size main bearings to be fitted. I have never driven a 1200 bug before.. is there a big difference between the two? My 1300 has 1600 pistons and barrels so I think it would be a big difference but I only use the car for short trips in town so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. Hopefully I'll be able to get out of my own way! Car has no air-con etc and is still running a generator. thoughts...
