(a) In my 1970 beetle, I have had the brown wire from the horn button to
the horn itself get tangled in the steering column crush zone and get torn
apart. This has occurred several times. I have tried shrouding the crush
zone with cardboard; routing the wires up and over ; nothing seems to work
for long.
Who can tell me what the “factory routing” was for the brown (-) hornbutton
wire on the 1970 beetles as they came from the factory? Mine was torn apart
for painting and obviously never correctly re-routed.
(b) I have a good factory Hella horn that came from a 1972 SuperBeetle.
Who knows whether this horn was also used on 1970 standard beetles? I
currently have a Chinese aftermarket horn. Works fine, but ‘taint
authentic.
