Volks,

My 1972 SuperBeetle had some aluminum aftermarket threshold protector trim
strips installed when I got it. They are gone (long story) and the only
replacements I find are stainless steel -- for a huge price (around $60 for
six feet). I would like to replace them (and cover the old holes), and might
have found a way.

Ace Hardware stores carry some MD brand 6' aluminum Stair Edging strips that
are designed for house steps. But they look very neat; cut in half, I think
they're a near-perfect fit for both sides. Just by eyeballing and loosely
test-fitting them, I think they would be a good replacement -- if I install
them using some flat-head #6 stainless sheet-metal screws. I see they come
in either black-anodized or in silver-anodized (= plain aluminum).

Measure twice, cut once. Before I start drilling holes etc., I'll ask y'all:
Has anyone on The List tried these? Do they give adequate clearance? Any
experiences to share? Any cautions?
