Oh, I see, because 85 seems good enough not in a call, didn't know exactly
how many "channels" the Iphone mixer really has that have to be controlled
in their own circumstance.

Yep, you need to turn VO volume up whilst in a call.

I'm having a real problem with this lately. I have VO on about 85 so it
can or might be about equal with At Bat although Apple shuffles the mixing
properly if you want to use VO from apps playing audio. VO gets very very
quiet while on a call. I almost typoed my ATM pin when activating my
newest debit card that way, having the wrong one would be a real mess.
With the new bank I was trying, I can't call the activation with Skype
where I could do this well.

Hello Thomas and others,
Have any of you actually been able to hear the keypad in speaker mode
when on a call? I have not been able to do this for some time. This
seems separate from the sensor issue as my speaker phone works in other
respects.
It would be helpful to know if someone else is able to actually have the
numbers spoken through the speaker while on a call.

There are two answers to this question. First use headphones when on a
call that will require you to dial numbers. The second answer is that
when you take the phone away from your head it should go into the
speaker phone mode. When the phone is in speakerphone mode you can hear
voiceover and can access the dial pad. The problem some people run into
when using the phone this way is that near the top of the phone where
the speaker is when you're listening to it as a regular phone there is a
sensor that detects the presence of your face. This make sure you don't
accidentally press numbers while holding the phone to your head. If you
accidentally cover the censor the speaker phone will turn off and you
will not be able to use voice over anymore.
Hope this helps

i have searched the archives for a resolution to my query. Not having
found a satisfactory explanation, I am asking this again.
During a call with my iPhone 4S, how do I punch in numbers on the
phones touch screen?
Thank you and many blessings!
