I don't think that's what Raul is saying though. He's using air plane mode, assuming I'm reading his post correctly, to shut off all radios and network services., not just location services. I'm not a big fan of analogies, I find they tend to be skewed towards the point the person is making, but I think a closer analogy would be going to my entertainment center and turning off the TV, the DVR, the DVD player, the receiver, ... or accomplishing the same thing by just turning off the power strip that powers all of these components.
