yes and my friend's son had his laying on a table recently when he picked it
up his glass cracked all over the place. He had to get it replaced and he
is not careless with it. I know someone else who had the glass break for no
explainable reason, I have in plan to remove mine from the case in the
immediate future, probably not until I upgrade to 4 next year.

I admit it -- I don't have my phone in a case; I have it in my pocket. I
did use a case for a while because of the issue with the antenna but I
didn't like the bulkiness of the case or the way it made it hard to take the
phone out of my pocket and decided that I'd just rather learn to not put my
fingers over the grooves where the antenna is.

The iPhone is actually very robust. And the glass surface is very
tough. According to Jonathan Ive of Apple, speaking on the iPhone 4,
the glass is "comparable in strength to sapphire crystal but about
thirty times harder than plastic.

There is a site that I really like called 'Will it blend"
http://willitblend.com/ where they put various consumer items into a blender
to see what happens

On the iPhone (listed under "Don't try this at home"), they blend an iPhone
4S and phone comes to pieces before the glass breaks

They also have an app for the iphone....

(and yes, the site really does sell blenders)
