Hi, My 4S does this a lot too. I'm beginning to suspect there's a design flaw in that phone somewhere that's causing the random needs to reset. It's quite unnerving, actually, seeing as I just got mine yesterday.

If you hold down the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, you've held them down more than long enough for the Apple logo to appear. I just suggested having someone look for the Apple logo because the phone hadn't been responding, so extra feedback could be encouraging.
