OK...I have played with this a little more. You need to select the radius you want to search in. There is a button in the upper right corner to change this setting. Double tap it then swipe up or down to select the search radius.
When you open Blind Square the screen will display a list of categories such as My Places,shared places, arts and entertainment, etc. If you select a category, such as Food, it will say search. Double tap and it will search for restaurants within the the radius you have selected. Now it will search, this takes a few seconds and then will list the restaurants in that radius. I have not figured out how the list is compiled, it is not by distance or alphabetical. Double tap on the desired item and the app will give you distance and direction via a clock face. For example, Applebees 390 feet at 11 o'clock. Since it is dependant on the compass, the iPhone must be held parallel to the ground with the top pointing in front of you. Next to each category there is an on off button. If you turn the category on the app will automatically search in the selected radius and read the items off.
