Brett,
there is no bug in this radio. It works perfectly with voice over
turned off. Because the interface is graphic based, it can not work
with voice over and was never intended to.
I bought this device to test its useability, because others on the
list wanted a FM receiver to attach to their iPhone.

As far as your family members setting up your iPhone, the iPhone, when
voice over is turned off, is extremely intuitive. That is why it is so
popular. Anyone can run an iPhone with almost no practice.

It is the gestures enabled by Voice Over that makes it more
complicated for us.
