A split tap is not going to work for the double tap and hold gesture in my experience. I have not found this to be a limiting issue, but proved it not to work through experimentation. So tapping with one finger and then holding that while tapping with another finger to acomplish the double tap and then holding that will not produce the double tap and hold result.
