Hi, Keep in mind, grant, that your brightness level has something to do with the camera being able to recognize the bills. I've done some tests with the brightness at 0, and nada, and then when I turned it to 50%, it worked flawlessly. Also, perhaps you're not hodling the bill and phone the right way?
