May also want to consider locking your account for the time being. Also a
very good idea to pay attention to the emails you get if in fact you get
them of who starts following you. Block accounts of those who you do not
actually recognize.

Per Twitter tech support, I texted the word Stop to 40404. I also logged
into my Twitter account and changed my password. I then went to my
Followers and Friends lists and got rid of accounts I didn't recognize. I
hope that will end the annoyances for now.
