Hello. One easy way that I found to change the name of the device when it is plugged into iTunes is through the use of the context menu key. Start iTunes and then plug your device into the computer. Make sure that you are on the sources list. Then press the D until it says devices closed. Press the right arrow once and then press the down arrow once. You should now be on the device that you have connected. Now press the context menu key. This is also known as the applications key. This is also for Windows computers. I do not know what the Macintosh equivalent would be. Once you open the context menu, press the down arrow button until you get to rename device. Press enter and an edit box will prompt you for the new name. Type it and press enter again. Now your device will be successfully name. Just so you know, the context menu also has other things like sink device and eject device. I tell my customers to always check the eject device to make sure that it is safe to eject the device in case it is still syncing.
