Hi, Excellent idea. On my various iPhones, I've tried that stupid pinch gesture more times than I care to count and I've rarely gotten it to work. The two-finger swipe right could work satisfactorily. Alternatively, perhaps a double-tap-and-hold at the beginning and another double-tap-and hold at the end of the text, sort of like setting block markers, could work, too. Just a thought.
