Update to this, as messages get backed up to iCloud, we decided to delete 
conversations as some of the conversations had pictures and videos in them. 
After conversations were deleted,  The phone was able to get backed up to 
iCloud as the phone no longer had no more than 5 GB of data to back up to 
iCloud. Just thought I would update you guys on this matter as I was confused.
