Yeah, and if I can get this training done and actually begin working I may
consider this with the scripts but have to get all the preliminary stuff out of
the way, if I can. Very discouraged at this point, it isn’t my MT knowledge
that is holding me back it is their stuff and so far about 50% has been
inaccessible. They sent me a document so full of pictures that I could not
even print and then scan it back in and the lady said she had to “actually type
the document” so I could read the instructions. Made me chuckle, it was not
that long and typing it probably took a matter of a minute, provided she could
read through the pictures, that is.

Never having seen, I can’t understand why someone would put pictures over words
as it was described to me. Even the Optacon would have had trouble had I tried
to use it.

I guess since it sounds confusing to me, I don’t see how someone with good
vision would make sense of it.

Then what do I know.

Week to go and I feel as ready for this transition as I felt on my first day at
the hospital using a MagCard typewriter a Lanier tank system with one take that
was always getting off track. One report, a discharge summary by an OB-GYN I
only understood the “thank you” at the end of the report.

Then you have family who talked me into a custom-made desk, brought it and
unloaded a shelving unit that was about 40 years old which had paper and other
stuff in it but they used the large empty boxes I had been saving to unload my
desk in the hospital and when I said those were for my office, they said they
put my office stuff in them. LOL, now I have to find more boxes in less than
six days.

If it can go wrong lately it will.

I want to dig a hole, climb in, and pull it in after me; this whole transition
thing makes me feel really dumb.

I have heard it can be used by itself with Dragon, but that it is iffy because
it doesn't repeat back what you edited. There is a place called
www.hartgenconsultancy.com

which makes a program that works JAWS and Dragon together so that it does give
feedback. I have heard mixed reviews on the product, but the demonstration
seems like it works. i am not certain how well it all works, but it's good
enough.

Someone converted a dictionary into text files which I put on my braille sense,
and they are done by letter. I doubt you'd even need such a thing, but I have
it if you need or want it.

I am getting all my textbooks converted right now into smaller files because
they are too large, and when I try to open them, they just gum up the computer
or notetaker that I am using.

It is the same company who owns Dragon Dictate. How well does that work with
JAWS, might be an easy to increase line counts if I could be sure it would
work.

Oh, is that the voice recognition thing? Or, is this a different Nuance company?

I am currently working for a local hospital in the office but starting Tuesday,
March 17th I will be trying Nuance, only because the hospital outsourced to
them and will be working from home for the first time in 38 plus years.

So this one is accessible, thanks so much for responding. Which company are
you now working for? I know we corresponded, but honestly with the meds I
myself was on at the time, I was no good. Think I'll do better with a clearer
mind and more help from rehab when I ask for it. i'll try that IPhone
reference. I mostly use braille with my IPhone and have a display for computer
and the IPhone so it's lovely.

I have the Micromedex drug database on my phone; now that I will be working
from home it may be more useful. I could not manage two sets of ears. I also
found a psychology term book recently but have not really used it.

I attempted to do this years ago, but I just was not in a state of being where
I could totally commit to learning transcription, but now that I am, one of the
things I was wondering about is has having IPhones made some of the reference
materials more accessible? Of course, one can go simply go online, but when
you are transcribing, I would imagine it would seem easier to be able to look
up something quickly on your phone without googling something. I was just
wondering if any medical transcriptionists were on the list, and are you using
any IPhone apps or other types of references like this? I use Windows for my
computer, but like i said, I thought this might help keep the computer less
cluttered while transcribing. A lot of the compter reference materials seem to
be hogs. You may contact me offlist. Thanks.
