I believe there's no internal mic so you have to record using the earbuds or
an external mic.

Hi, there is no such thing as a 5th generation iPod. So, the differences
between 3 and 4 are mainly more memory in the 4th and a camera. I believe
the capacity of both 3rd and 4th generation iPods are the same of 8, 32, and
64 gb.
