I only have the problem you mentioned on my iPad while using spotlight.

Actually, I was only referring to the shelf. I find the best results with
the holder in the first hole, the farthest from the document.
At least, for a standard sized document, that gets the whole page.

I put the device shelf in the third hole from the top. Then I positioned
it so the right side of the phone is in the middle, so the camera is
about centered on the page.
I have a document I did with text a half inch from the top and bottom.
That way I know that I'm getting the full page. That position worked
great.
Be sure the iPhone is flush against the device holder so the camera isn't
angling downward.
