Each finger is a dot, just like any braille keyboard. So long as you keep your fingers in the right place, you'll get the dots you want. You aren't moving one finger around to find each dot; rather, you're typing up to five dots at once (the touch screen can't detect more than five touches at a time). If I want to type and I, I'd just put my left middle and right index fingers down, then lift them up, and there's my I.
