I seem to have missed out on this iTools software. What exactly is it
supposed to do and from where does it come?

No, you can't get a ringtone onto your iPhone that way just as you can't
email a song to yourself and add it to your music library on your iPhone.
You have to use iTunes or apparently this iTools software, but I haven't
tried that yet since I find the process with iTunes is easy and straight
forward. I sometimes do think I have to fix things which aren't broke, but
so far I haven't had that urge yet when it comes to iTunes.
