      I do have the problem from time to time, but, and I have my fingers 
crossed here, but a tripple tap of the home button, turning off Vo and then 
another tripple tap to turn it back on seems to work for me. Much less bother 
than what you are doing. I am running 8.3 on an iPhone 6 and using an Apple BT 
keyboard.
